5 Benefits of Reading God’s Word And One Huge Caution
When Jesus (who is God’s “Living Word”) left this earth He promised us the Holy Spirit. When we read God’s Word with an attitude of openness and humility His Holy Spirit will certainly:
1. GUIDE US.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
2. TEACH US.
John 17:17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.
3. FILL US with peace.
Romans 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
4. ENCOURAGE US.
Psalm 119:28 . . . encourage me by your word.
5. CONVICT US.
John 16:8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
“So what’s the huge caution?” Here it is . . .
Once you hear the Word of God – you are accountable for it.
You can look at it this way: Sometimes you might not feel like encountering a Holy yet loving God on His terms. So, you shy away from listening to Him.
But, how about looking at it this way? Once you’ve heard from the Awesome God of the universe, you’re going to want more! So get into it every day and think about what He’s spoken to you throughout the day.
Why not make a decision right now to begin regularly reading God’s Word and letting His Spirit guide you, teach you, fill you with His peace, encourage you, and lovingly convict (not condemn) you by His Word?
If you don’t have a reading plan yet, you can begin today by reading the “NT by E” (New Testament by Easter.)
- Begin reading in Matthew – 3 chapters a day – 6 days a week.
- If you want to go slower – you can read 1 chapter a day 5 days a week and you’ll get through the New Testament in a year.
Love you guys,
Steve 🙂
